"The passion of Celtic fans was not matched before kick-off by the home side. The Stadium of Light is known to Benfica fans as ‘The Cathedral’, but the Portuguese parishioners were hardly beating down the doors to worship their side, despite their undefeated start to the domestic season.
The heavens even opened in dismay at the gaps around the ground as kick-off approached.
Intimidating it was not, despite the pre-match claims from Jesus – Jorge, that is – that the atmosphere would be the equal to Parkhead in September.
It was like comparing punk to easy listening – it didn’t even come close, despite the best efforts of the matchday DJ who blasted out heavy metal hits by the likes of AC/DC and Van Halen as the Celtic fans looked on from behind the goal, interested only in the tactical prowess of Lenny, not the vocal range of Lemmy.
They let rip with a chorus of pantomime boos as Victoria the eagle, Benfica’s mascot, soared to her perch on the half way line before the match." - Gary Ralston in Daily Record
